One of the aims of the National Digital Library project is to promote the digitisation and availability of originally physical library, archive and museum materials.
A common public interface, which will be implemented during the project, will gather together the digitised materials. This entity will then serve the needs of citizens and science as well as culture and education. In addition to the preservation of the materials, digitisation benefits society first and foremost through use and reuse of materials.
The technologies used for the creation of digitised materials and metadata linked with them must correspond to the needs of use and requirements of long-term preservation so that it will not be necessary to digitise the materials again later.
Through subsidies, the Ministry of Education and Culture supports the digitisation of library, archive and museum materials.
